05-09-09 - After taking a lop-sided game in Taconic Hills, Chatham found themselves in a shoot-out type game with the Titans the next day on their home field. The Titans scored in five of the seven innings and had a 9-8 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Chatham, as they have done in three of their previous four games, was able to come from behind and get the win. The Panthers put up 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away and win by a final of 16-10.

Match highlights

Offensively for Taconic Hills, Josh Skelley was 2 for 5 with a pair of runs. Mike Jacobsen was 2 for 4, Nick Warren was 2 for 2, Dylan Hotaling was 2 for 3 with 3 runs, and Tyler Duncan was 2 for 3. The Titan pitching was done by Josh Weisner and Scott Decker who allowed 16 runs on 16 hits and 5 walks.

For the Panthers, Cole Gleason got the start and went two and a third, walking 4, allowing 5 hits, and 6 runs (1 earned). Chris Williams relieved and went two full innings striking out 1, walking 1, hitting one batter, while giving up 3 hits and 2 runs (1 earned). Nick Faxon came in and slowed down the Titans by going two and a third innings, striking out 2, walking 1, hitting one batter, and allowing 2 hits and 1 unearned run. Offensively for the Panthers, Jordan Sirani led the way, going a perfect 4 for 4 with a double and 3 runs. Ryen Boehme was 2 for 4 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Parker Niles also had a big day, going 2 for 3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs, a stolen base, a walk, and 2 RBIs. Cody Portin sparked the Panther offense by going 1 for 2, drawing 2 walks, 3 runs, and 3 stolen bases.

"Taconic did a good job of putting the ball in play today. We were asleep defensively, and they took advantage. We did nothing with the leather to support any of our pitchers. Nick Faxon did a nice job of stopping the bleeding to keep us close so we could come back and get the win. Fortunately for us, we swung the bats and ran the bases well enough to win. We will learn from this and move forward into the toughest part of our schedule taking on Coxsackie, Ichabod, and Hudson for the final six games," Chatham Coach Scott Steltz reported.

Chatham’s record is 15-1 and 12-0 in the league. Their next game is Friday against Coxsackie-Athens.
