A slow week of action in the Patroon with only one slate of games, but the Central Hudson Valley League charged into the middle of their season with lots of girls' basketball action this week.
TUESDAY
Hawthorne Valley at Germantown
The Clippers jumped out to a 13-0 lead after one quarter and outscored the Wildcats in three of four quarters en route to their tenth straight victory. Germantown eased into the fourth quarter with a 28-point lead before being outscored 6-5 in the final stanza and picked up the 44-17 victory over the visiting Wildcats.
Taylor Race scored a game-high 20 points for the Clipps, while six other players got in on the scoring action, including Melissa Fuchs who scored 7. Only three players scored for Hawthorne Valley with Frances Workman leading the way with 12.
New Lebanon at Berlin
The Tigers kept the game close throughout, but when it mattered the most, they came up short, falling on the road to Berlin 28-19. New Lebanon was down just one point after a quarter, 2 points at the half, and 3 after the third but allowed the Mountaineers to finish on a 7-2 run.
Only three players scored for New Lebanon, but second leading scorer Geneva Furlano wasn't one of them. Alannah Carpinello led the Tigers in the loss with 13 points.
THURSDAY
Waterford at Germantown
The Clippers notched their eleventh straight victory and took revenge on the only team to defeat them this year after a thorough 53-32 victory over the visiting Fordians. Germantown trailed 13-12 after one quarter but used a 13-3 spurt heading into halftime to give them breathing room. The Clipps outscored the Fordians by 12 in the second half en route to the win.
Taylor Race scored a team- and game-high 25 points, while Melissa Fuchs added 15 in the win. Patti Cameron chipped in with 7, while Kim Kreig, Victoria Fuchs, and Carissa Phillips each added 2.
New Lebanon at Hawthorne Valley
The Wildcats earned their first league win of the season while keeping New Lebanon at one in the CHVL after a 39-20 win. Hawthorne Valley outscored the Tigers in every quarter en route to a convincing win in which each team had just three players score.
Frances Workman poured in a game-high 24 points including four shots from beyond the arch. It was again Alannah Carpinello leading the Tigers in defeat, scoring 16 points, including 8 from the free-throw line.
FRIDAY
Coxsackie-Athens at Taconic Hills
The Titans continued their strong play earning their fifth win in six games, thanks to a 49-44 victory over the Indians. The Titans trailed by one after the first eight minutes, but they outscored the Indians 27 to 13 over the middle quarters to give them a lead large enough to hang on after C-A finished on a 16-8 run.
Despite hitting just two three-pointers and going to the line for only five free throws, the Titans used a balanced scoring attack to earn the win. Six players scored for Taconic Hills, with Alexis McComb and Rachel Preusser leading the way with 11 apiece.
Rensselaer at Hudson
The first time these two teams met, a slow start doomed the Bluehawks from the beginning, and they fell by four on the road. This time at home, Hudson left nothing to doubt after a 13-0 start. The Bluehawks jumped out to that early lead and never looked back picking up the 56-36 win.
Danielle Kitsock buried an incredible six shots from beyond the arch while leading Hudson with 20 points. Shavonda Cousin scored 18 points, while Sam Davis added 9 in the win.
Ichabod Crane at Chatham
The Riders blew out Chatham on Friday with a deep, well-rounded attack. Ten Riders scored as ICC picked up the 62-18 victory. Chatham kept it close early, down just 10-5 after one quarter, but the Riders turned it on with a 40-3 middle quarter run.
Becca Smith scored 13, and Hannah Smith added 10 for ICC in the win. Kaitlin Williams and Alicia Razanousky each chipped in with 8, while Shana Barry hit two shots from deep and added a free throw for 7.
Four players got in on the scoring for the Panthers, led by Erika Sheerin’s 8, which included two shots from deep. Leah Layton added 5, Alyssa Keeler 4, and Michaela Smith chipped in 1 in the loss.
