Columbia County Habitat for Humanity (CCHFH) will be celebrating the completion of its tenth house on November 21 at 2:30 p.m. The celebration will take place on Mill Street in Hudson, where CCHFH and its corps of volunteers have now completed construction of five homes in the Mill Street neighborhood. The house dedication and celebration will be followed by a reception featuring desserts, coffee, and cider served at the nearby John L. Edwards School. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend this milestone celebration and reception.

Since its founding in 1997, CCHFH has built or renovated ten houses in Columbia County. Thanks to the success of recent projects—notably Women Build in 2008, and building two houses in one season in 2009—CCHFH has enjoyed increased public awareness and support of its mission.  

This latest home project will be occupied by Reaz Mahmood and Aliaa Saleh and their family, all of whom contributed to the project with “sweat equity” and who will pay for the home with a no-interest mortgage. The land for the new home, and the four other CCHFH homes on Mill Street, was donated by the City of Hudson over the last few years. There is room on the street for one more house in the lot next to Reaz and Aliaa.

“Building ten houses has been quite an accomplishment for this organization,” said Rosemary Carroll, President of the CCHFH board. “We look forward to building the last house on Mill Street and continuing our quest to find properties throughout the county that are favorable to building affordable housing. Columbia County Habitat for Humanity provides amazing opportunities for the whole community.”
